They don’t call him the Great Dane for nothing. Standing at 6ft 4in and weighing in at 16 stone, it’s no wonder centre forwards feared his giant frame in front of goal. Schmeichel made his name at Manchester United after joining the Reds from Bronby in 1991 for £550,000. The Danish international collected a hoard of honours at Old Trafford. He was also famous for his excellence in one-on-one situations and became an influential figure between the sticks wherever he played.
